UPSC Mains 2017 – Exam Date, Admit Card & UPSC Sample Papers

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released notification regarding the UPSC 2017-2018 mains examination. This year, the preliminary exams was held in June 2017 and the mains are to be conducted in the end of October and the initial days of November.

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a national level competitive examination held across India for the recruitment of various posts,

  • The Indian Police Service (IPS)
  • Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
  • Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
  • Indian Revenue Service (IRS)

This is recorded as the toughest examination in India, with accounting more than 900,000 applicants having one of the lowest success rate of 0.1%­0.3%. The process takes more than one year from the notification of the pre examination to declaration of the final results.

  1. The appearing candidates must have a degree from a recognized university incorporated by an Act of Central OR State Legislature in India OR Other educational institution established by Parliament Act OR announced to be deemed university under section-3 of the UGCA), 1956 or have an equivalent degree.

UPSC examination 2017

  1. Paper A (Indian language to be selected from the eighth schedule of the constitution) – 300 marks
  2. Paper B English language – 300 marks
  3. Paper I Essay – 250 marks
  4. Paper II General Studies I (Indian heritage & culture, History & Geography of world & society)
  5. Paper II General studies II (Governance, constitution, polity, social justice & international relations) – 250 marks
  6. Paper IV General studies III (Technology, economic development, bio-diversity, environment, security & disaster management) – 250 marks
  7. Paper V General studies IV (Ethnic, integrity & aptitude) – 250 marks
  8. Paper VI Optional subject Paper I – 250 marks
  9. paper VII Optional subject Paper II – 250 marks
